Why would anybody be surprised to experience bone chilling cold in February across the High Plains? Perhaps it is because us humans have a relatively short memory. Or perhaps it is because we are bombarded almost daily by half truths (or complete lies) about weather and climate. Recently I've had a relatively high number of individuals mention that in the past winter, was basically over by mid-February. What? I'll just pick Dodge City as an example - here is the average February high and low...
The darker blue line is a 30 year moving average. For the past 70 years there has been a slight uptick in average max temperatures but a slight decrease in min temperatures. Do you remember February of 2021? I'm afraid another repeat is in the offing this month, especially if there is any appreciable snow cover.
In the reports I do for Hutton Weather Futures, I've been discussing the cold, in addition to increased opportunities for moisture. Clients have available an outlook well into the growing season based on my forecast methods (with great success).
I will be running a "Winter Special" for new customers later this month (Feb). Learn more about the weekly weather outlooks and the ultra long-range forecasts that customers of Hutton Weather Futures, LLC receive - in addition to the option to receive one-on-one consulting for your business needs.
